Gilmore Girls

For as long as I can remember Gilmore Girls has been my favorite television shows. If you’ve never seen it, you should. It’s full of clever, quick-witted characters that are incredibly dynamic and well discovered throughout the seven seasons. The show is about a single mother and her daughter who live in a small town. As with any depiction of small town life, there are a variety of interesting characters that are simultaneously lovable and despicable. I think my favorite part of the show though however is all the references to pop culture. There are so many references to literature in fact that someone put together a list of all the books ever mentioned on the show.

So far I’ve only managed to read 20 of the books from this list. A lot of them are books that were required reading for me in high school, like “The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn” and “Catcher in the Rye”, some were books that I sought out on my own such as: “Pride and Prejudice”, “The Perks of Being a Wallflower”.

Has a show ever inspired you to read a certain book? What’s your favorite T.V show? How did it effect you and your outlook on life?

  1. Twilight inspired me to read the books, but then to read anything better. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed the books, but I don’t think I’ll ever go back because of the deeper thinking I’ve done in regards to the series social impacts.
