I Can Still Taste The Smoke | Release The Restraints Wednesday

Hello fellow adventurers!

Wow! It’s been a really long time since I’ve posted a “Release the Restraints Wednesday”. Finally though, I’ve written a few poems that I feel are share-worthy and today I’m sharing a poem titled: I Can Still Taste The Smoke.

I don’t smoke and I also really don’t like the smell/taste of smoke which I think are important pieces of information to have before reading the poem.

So without further ado, here it is:

I can still taste the smoke.
The haze of kissing you
fills my brain. For days after,
smoke flavors my lips.

I can still taste the smoke.
Exotic and forbidden.
The dance of passion interrupted,
smoke flavors my lips.

I can still taste the smoke.
My lungs ache and my chest burns
but is it passion or is it that
smoke flavors my lips?

In the dark, I can’t see but
your warmth flames out and
covers my icy body. Melting,
almost free. Please don’t extinguish.

I can still taste the smoke.
Flinching and analyzing are sidelined
by the intoxication. Even so,
smoke flavors my lips.

I can still taste the smoke.
It chokes me when I least expect it.
Gagging, the kisses carry on,
smoke flavors my lips.

How does this poem read to you? What are your thoughts? When I was writing this, I thought it might be coming off as a love poem which was not my intention so your feedback would be wonderfully helpful. Thank you for reading, I hope you enjoyed it, and please leave a comment with your thoughts.

Until next time,

~K.D.
